Okanagan College

Kelowna signed up, and by 1963 B.C. Premier W.A.C. Bennett, himself from Kelowna, opened the $1.7-million B.C. Vocational School – Kelowna, located far from the small city’s downtown core on K.L.O. Road. This marked the beginning of what the region knows today as Okanagan College, and formed the nucleus of what was to come.

History

  • It was the turn of the last century – 1906 – when a Baptist college affiliated with McMaster University opened its doors to a brand new campus in Summerland called Okanagan College, with 26 students.
  • By 1971, the College and B.C. Vocational School melded into one entity and the name Okanagan College is officially re-born.

Housing services

  • Nestled in the mountains of the scenic Okanagan Valley, Okanagan College Student Housing offers you furnished, non-smoking accommodations at the Kelowna campus. 
  • The housing is located only steps away from classrooms, libraries, recreational and fitness facilities, and food services.
  • Each room contains a study space with a desk, chair and lamp. A high-speed Internet connection is included with your fees.
  • Housing Life gives you a unique experience, combining academics with social, recreational and leadership activities. 
  • Organized social events like movie nights, laser tag, BBQs, sports activities and games, offer needed relaxation and an opportunity to meet other students and form friendships that last a lifetime.

  • Librarians at Okanagan College run an active instructional program committed to providing information literacy skills in support of developing information literate and lifelong learners. 
  • Services include campus library tours, general orientations , and in-depth research instruction for students.

  • Okanagan College is a vibrant institution that places a high priority on the application of technology in learning and we, in IT Services, are committed to providing key technical services and support for students.

Campus life

  • Located in the Southern Interior of B.C., Okanagan College offers post-secondary education through each of its four regions, stretching from the Canada-U.S. border in the south to Revelstoke in the north.
  • The College’s four main campuses are located in Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon and Salmon Arm.
  • More than 20,000 students come to Okanagan College each year, including more than 7,000 full-time equivalent students taking programs from trades to technical certifications and university transfer courses.

  • Okanagan College encourages students to get involved in recreational activities both on and off campus.

  • At Okanagan College, two student-led organizations offer additional support for students.
  • Students with their home campus in Penticton, Kelowna or Salmon Arm are members of the Okanagan College Students' Union.
  • Students with Vernon as their home campus are members of the Vernon Students’ Association Okanagan College.
