History
University Fernando Pessoa was recognized as a public interest organization by the Portuguese State in July 1996 and it is the result of a pioneering higher education project initiated in the 1980’s with the creation of two higher education institutes that provided its structural basis.
Education
Today, the University is organized in three faculties (Health Sciences, Human and Social Sciences, Science and Technology), one School of Health Sciences and one autonomous unit (Ponte de Lima College).
Research
Research was encouraged and supported since the creation of the University Fernando Pessoa, with the formation of several R&D centers. Some of these are lab oriented, others community oriented, cooperating with national and international public and private institutions. Whenever is possible, some of these R&D centers integrate graduate, master and doctoral students on their research.
Career
UFP always collaborated with the evolving community by developing services that would balance research and students interaction. These projects can be agreements to produce contents to private companies, community health services, conferences, exhibitions, etc. Also, there are R&D projects directly related to the community.
Student services
The International Relations Office provides a dedicated advisory service for international students on non-academic and welfare matters such as immigration, employment, finance, health services and any other concerns you may have. We also organise UFP’s International Orientation Programmes, compile the International Student Guide and coordinate events for international students. You can visit us during office hours or book an appointment.
Library services
UFP’s libraries exist to facilitate the spread of information in scientific areas taught at the University, serving as an educational support for teaching, research and learning, at undergraduate as well as post-graduate level. UFP’s libraries provide services of on-site-reading, book loans, inter-library loans, self-service copy machines, access to data bases, among other services.
ICT services
All students have free internet access at UFP, either at the computer labs or using the wired and wireless network services available at classrooms, libraries, bars and cafeterias. Each student is also given an email address and on line storage to create and keep a personal web page on the internet.
Medical services
All UFP students are covered by a personal accidents insurance. This insurance covers expenses related to treatment, disability or death arising from personal accidents inside UFP premises or on the way between the student’s home and the university.
Sports facilities
The promotion and organization of sport activities is made by UFP’s Students Association.
Student clubs
UFP’s Students Association promotes the information and integration of students, as well as the protection of their interest.
